july has been very busy around here. besides swimming lessons, berry picking, visitors, and tending our garden; marc has been making a film! i am so proud, and excited for the screening coming up august 1! you can follow runaway mustache productions on facebook to find out more about the incredible story behind 'in this together'. and the hats? a local company, flipside hats, purchased locally at milagros boutique. love both of these businesses too! so - what new and exciting happenings are happening with you?

we have been using the dustbuster around here with great success. it's perfect for all those little dog hairballs, plus, both kids like using it. hurray for dustbusting!

it's always a good reminder that a shift in perspective can change everything.

over the weekend, colden got to attend a little workshop at home depot with his cousin. i hoped to share his project, and i asked him if i could take pictures of it and blog about it. he said no, and that he didn't like my blogging. i was somewhat taken aback. i had been enjoying getting back to this space, but am now questioning that. i plan on cutting back on any computer time when i am with colden because i think that is what he dislikes, however, i am also considering that he may not want me to share about him here. any thoughts?

rainbow jingle ball, of course, my favorite stay-on booties, plus a little friend for baby. for mama, i also got a necklace here. they are designed for babies to tug and i love them. what are your favorite things for baby?

i love having a fire. there is something so magical about the flickering flames, the scent that seeps into your clothes and hair, and then my favorite part - prodding and poking it with a stick. i also love burning bits of paper with fears or wishes written. last month we had a fire in which i burned some of colden's old broken (irreparable) wooden toys and baskets, thanking them for their service. this time we burned the scraps from the building of our new hen house and the pieces of old coop. there's something so wonderful and cleansing in these fires. i hope to have many more this season.

this cake. delicious. my freezer is still full of zucchini, and boy, does this elevate it beyond its age.
i agree with you, stephinie, it needs no frosting. (however, my husband did eat it with goat milk yogurt and said, "it's almost like frosting!" ha!)
we all loved it. down to the very last crumbs. (which we squished together and ate.) we will definitely be making this again.
what's happening in your kitchen?

hope you had a great holiday weekend! we picked up these little cuties to join our flock once they get big enough. we still have one of our original chickens (the little black one there), and we also have an araucana we bought mid-year. these are a barnevelder, a golden sexlink, and a rhode island red. i am not sure which is which, but i believe we'll be able to tell as they grow.

we made up some of rachel's felt eggs with sweater scraps. just like my childhood eggs, these have initials for each child. we already played with them a few times with just a few jellybeans tucked inside.
we are outside every time the sun peeks out. those moments have been few and far between lately! here's to sunnier skies ahead!
